{ Happy Halloween! }

Are you celebrating Halloween this weekend? As a Norwegian in USA I have to say that there is a huge difference between how we celebrate in Norway and USA. Here in LA it's decoration in almost every garden and house (lots!), and most people dress up in a costume and walk in a Halloween parade.

 I have to admit that I haven't decorated our apartment that much. I'm really not into the orange and scary decoration. I do have some pumpkins in different colors though.

How do you celebrate Halloween where you live? Do you decorate for the occasion?

Enjoy your Saturday!

{ Halloween: table setting }

I know it's a little early to decorate the table for Halloween, but yesterday was my only chance since we have other plans this weekend. It was kind of fun to do something different, and I like the dramatic look our dining table got. With a black tablecloth, some pumpkins, pine cones and candles on the table we are all set for a "Halloween dinner"!
I made some cute notes in each bowl using gift tags and letter stamps.
I wrote the words: EAT, DRINK, LAUGH and ENJOY.
Are you going to do anything extra with your table setting this weekend?
Tell me all about it!
Wish you a great Friday, my lovely readers!

The product range has influences from all over the globe and takes inspiration from childhood memories, but often with a contemporary twist."

{ Making it pretty for our guests }

I don't know if it's because of the rainy weather here in LA, but this week seems so looooong! I can't wait for it to be weekend again - can you?
We had some friends over for dinner last night, and here are some pictures of our dining table before they arrived.
I decorated it with block candles, pine cones, a pumpkin and some small flowers from my hydrangea, and the napkins are folded in a "basic silverware pouch".

I'm using a lot of grey and purple when I'm setting the table these days, what color do you decorate your dining table with this fall?

You can see two other table settings that I've done her and her.

{ Ferm Living }

The blog "Hviit" is writing about a calendar today from Ferm Living and
asks us whether or not they should take it into their store. I say, YES!
They also ask if we could tell them about our favorites from Ferm Living, so
I made this collage with MY favorites.

Do you have any favorites? You can find their website here.

I had a post about some of their wallstickers last month that you can see here.

{ My best flea market finds! }

Norwegian Interior Blogs (NIB) have a new challenge on their website this November, and this time they want us to submit pictures of our flea market finds. I love going to flea markets to search for those hidden treasures, so challenge accepted *smile*. I have however still not found those big furniture items that I'm hoping to find yet, but I know they are out there somewhere.
So for now I would like to share with you three of my latest finds that I'm very happy with...

( My three best finds: An antler, a wooden Coca Cola crate and an old frame that I have painted )

What are your best flea market finds?
I would love to hear about them, and hopefully I can see a picture of them in the NIB challenge.

Have a great Saturday everyone! I have plans to lay out in the sun this Saturday, if the sun comes out...

{ DIY: Make your own decorations! }

Yesterday I was a guest writer on Design Refuge, and I shared some ideas on how you can make non-traditional candle decorations that are related to fall. We all like to light more candles now that we have darker nights, right? So why not get creative with vegetables - they can be very decorative!

As you can see, I used a small pumpkin, an artichoke and some asparagus to get a cosy fall-looking decoration.

How to make them:

1. Artichoke: Cut off the bottom of the artichoke so that it stands better on the table. Then pull out or cut away the leaves from the top, until you get a hole that fits the candle. Now you can place the block candle in the middle.

2. Asparagus: Cut the asparagus in appropriate lengths. Put them close together around the block candle, and hold it all together with your hand before you attach the twine.

3. Pumpkin: Cut a hole in the middle of the pumpkin before you place the candle. When you are at the grocery store, be sure to pick a pumpkin that is not too hard.

( Remember: Candles require attention - all the time!  )
 If you don't want to waste your vegetables you can also do something easy like decorating a jar with some leaves and twine.. Fill it with water and add a floating candle.

Can you think of any other vegetables that would be fun to make a candle holder out of?

What do you think - do you like any of my ideas?

I wish you a creative weekend!

{ Purple dreams... }

Yesterday I bought a Hydrangea in this lovely purple color. A touch of purple in our white and grey living room, gives the right amount of color that I want this fall.
Lovely flowers make me SO happy!

I made myself a purple smoothie yesterday as well! I think a smoothie is a perfect snack all year around, as long as I'm not freezing * smile *

So what are you all doing this weekend? Any great plans?
I'm hoping to see the sun again after a cloudy week here in LA, but otherwise I want to relax, be with my friends and maybe do some shopping. After all your good advice on scented candles, I want to try some of them out.

Love, Nina

{ Making it cosy in the fall... }

In the fall I like to make it a bit more cosy in my home, and scented candles bring that extra cosiness. This Saturday I bought this VOLUSPA - Japanese Plum Bloom, and I tell you it has an amazingly delightful smell!

I know VOLUSPA is a very popular scented candle, but this was my first. There are so many different scented candles out there, so please tell me who is your favorite?

{ Decorating the balcony }

My balcony is now decorated with new flowers for the fall.
I love flowers, and I'm really exited about these new ones - the color is really fresh and crispy!

Have you decorated your outdoor area yet? What kind of flowers do you prefer in the fall?

You can see more pictures from my balcony and my home on

It would be fun to see how you decorated your outdoor area too.
